Nandan Kanan National Park

The bastion of White Tigers - Nandan Kanan National Park is a unique kind of wildlife park of India. Located just 20 km from Bhubaneswar, capital city of Orissa, Nandan Kanan national park offers lots of pleasure and enjoyment by offering an exotic kind of flora and fauna. Originally, the foundation of Nandan Kanan national park was laid on the recommendation of National Geographic magazine after a wild female tiger came to the zoo, found a tiger enclosure, and stayed there. The park houses India's largest Tiger-safari, a reptile park, a botanical garden and a nocturnal animal park.

Nandan Kanan National Park is sprawling over an area of 4 sq km, which dominated by the Chandaka forests. There is a lush green zoological garden, which houses lots varieties of vegetation and flowers.

The Regal White Tiger is the main attraction for thousands of tourists from all over the world. This rarest creature of the world resides here with full majesty. Right now, Nandan Kanan national park has more than 34 white tigers. Besides white tiger, Nandan Kanan national park is home to more than 75 species of mammals and reptiles. The animals that are frequently seen in the park are asiatic lion, indian crocodiles, lion-tailed macaque, nilgiri langur, indian pangolin, mouse deer, himalayan black bear, rhesus macaque, black buck.

Nandan Kanan national park has a lake and wonderful lush green environs, which is a virtual paradise for birds inviting native as well as migratory birds. According to forest department, the park has around 75 bird species including some very rare species of birds. Some of the popular birds that can be seen here include white peacock, open billed stork, blue & yellow macaw, green winged macaw etc.
