Kaziranga National Park is a land of 'Big
Five'-the elephant, rhinoceros, wild buffalo, tiger and swamp deer. This
beautiful park is known world-wide for inhabiting highest number of
one-horned rhinoceroses and offers the most fertile ground for breeding the
endangered species like tigers, leopard and rhino. Located between
Brahmaputra river and Karbi Anglong hills,
Kaziranga National Park is
declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and offers a perfect wildlife
vacation.

Wildlife Species in Kaziranga
National Park

The
flora in Kaziranga National Park is dominated by four kind of forests which
are alluvial inundated grasslands, alluvial savanna woodlands, tropical
moist mixed deciduous forests and tropical semi-evergreen forests. The
western part is dominated by the grasslands which feature elephant high
grass and short grasses mixing with each other and offering beautiful scene
of grazing rhino in the filed. The vast area of the park is covered with
water lilies, water hyacinth and lotus.
There are around 35 mammalian species residing in Kaziranga national park.
Indian rhinoceros are the primary attraction of almost every tourist. It has
around 12000 hundred in the park. Other animal found in the park are pygmy
hog, Indian elephants, Asiatic water buffalo, Eastern swamp deer, gaur,
sambar, Indian muntjac, wild boar, hog deer, barking deer, royal Bengal
tiger, the Indian leopard, the clouded leopard, sloth bears jungle cat,
fishing cat and leopard cat and many more small mammals.
A virtual paradise for bird lovers, Kaziranga National Park is an important
bird area offering shelters to more 479 species of birds-migratory and
native. Some important bird species in the park include the black kite,
black-shouldered kite, Himalayan griffon, grey-headed fishing eagle, red
jungle fowl, swamp partridge, white tailed eagle. Some migratory birds are
graylag geese, ruddy shelduck, gadwall, falcated duck etc. It park has also
39 species of reptiles and 42 species of fish.
What else to see and do?
- Jeep safari and elephant safari are the best way to explore the
wonders and splendors of the park. You can manage jeep or elephant with
the help of forest department and your tour operator.
- To immortalize your trip to this park of Indian rhino, you need a
camera and some extra reels. The guide will help you to find the ideal

- The Karbi Anglong hills is an ideal place for trekkers. With the

north-east zone of India.

Travel (Air/Rail/Road) Information
To reach Kaziranga National Park, you need to reach to the nearest town
Bokakhat 23 km away from the park. It is extensively connected by NH-37 at
Kohora to all important cities of the state. Dum Dum International Airport
at Kolkata and Domestic airport at Jorhat (97 km) provide regular domestic
and international air services. Furkating (75 km) is the closest railhead
and offers regular services to several important cities of India.
